The all-new liquid-cooled Revolution X™ engine that powers the genuine Harley-Davidson® V-Twin built to thrive in high temperatures and heavy traffic. Liquid-cooling helps maintain temperature and performance as the sixty degree cylinders and 4 valves per head offer plenty of low-end torque. You don’t have to be winding the RPMs up to five figures to feel the strength and character of this engine. It’s built to give you a soul-satisfying ride at the kind of RPMs you find yourself riding at on city streets.

A smooth-shifting 6 speed transmission makes it easy to stay in the powerband when traffic is stop-and-go. And when the road opens up, sixth gear lets you drop the engine into a comfortable ride at highway speeds.

A seat height of just 709 cm and a narrow frame and seat gives riders an easy reach to the ground. The advantages of a low seat are a low centre of gravity, which combined with the motorcycle’s 206 kg weight gives confidence when negotiating busy urban roads or riding slowly.

Slightly forward mid-mount foot controls provide a riding position that is not only comfortable, but provide manoeuvrability and confidence. The mid-mount controls also keep the ground in easy reach when it’s time to stop. The rake and trail angles on the front end are also optimized for low speed manoeuvrability and the dual piston calipers give rapid stopping power.

And the look? This latest addition to the Dark Custom line of Motorcycles is sure to get the nod of approval in front of any crowded rider hang out in the world. Raw, stripped-down, blacked-out aggression, this is premium Harley-Davidson. Symbolised by the classic Bar & Shield badge on the tank which signifies one thing: This is the real steel. Iconic sound, premium fit and finish, a blank canvas truly ready for customisation. From the deep, rumble coming from the upswept pupes, to the rich thick paint on the metal teardrop tank, the new Harley-Davidson Street™ 500 Motorcycle is true Harley-Davidson, opening up our world to a whole new generation of new riders.

The Street Challenge

The acclaimed and passionate Harley-Davidson Design Team, based at the Willie G. Davidson Product Development Center, was given the challenge of creating the Street Custom Concepts, a project that aimed to demonstrate the infinite customisation potential available to Harley-Davidson customers around the world. Taking the minimalist, dark and rebellious Street 750 as a blank canvas, the design team came up with three concept models designed to inspire a whole new generation of urban riders – Urban Custom, the RDX 800and Garage. Here is a summary of the inspiration and customisation features described by our Lead Designers.

Industrial Designer/Stylist Sr – Dais Nagao

Industrial Designer/Stylist II - Chetaan Shedjale

This bike was inspired by the custom scenes happening in Europe and Asia, which is seeing bikes being chopped to represent the ultra cool authenticity of road racing. During my stay in Europe, I visited the bike shops in the region, which would sell the most incredible custom parts made by dedicated bike builders. Seeing these parts being made inspired me to design this bike with the same dedication and creativity that was being put into their models.

The current custom scene in So Cal/Japan was the main influence for the Garage project - the region is leading the way for custom trends in the chopper, bobber and old school genre. The bike was built with the spirit of ‘garage’, using our bare hands to pull together every component.

All the parts you see on the bike were constructed in-house by the

Harley-Davidson design team.

What are the key customisation features?

This model is ready to be ridden hard - designs, parts and finishes have all been inspired by retro elements of the 1970s. The model incorporates the use of carbon fibre parts, which is a unique concept to this Street build. Although we’re working within a traditional design template or ‘stance’, the introduction of more exotic parts was crucial to this customised model and the ‘garage’ genre.

Who is the customer/rider for this bike?

This bike is undoubtedly made for young urban adults that have that rebellious streak. This customised Street model has plenty of power and panache and I can’t wait to see how Harley enthusiasts customise their own Street bikes in years to come.
